Frequently asked questions…

Where is your private studio?

My studio is in Harpenden in the Sir John Lawes area. There is parking also available.

Would you travel to my home to train me?

Yes, of course.  If you’re short on time, have a busy schedule, or would prefer to train in the comfort of your own home, I can travel to you within Harpenden, surrounding villages, St Albans, Welwyn Garden City and Luton. I will bring all the equipment needed, so you can have an effective session.

Do you only offer Thursday and Saturday bootcamp sessions?

Yes, at this time.

Currently, there is a 30 minute ‘express’ bootcamp in the Walled Garden, at Harpenden Hall, Southdown Road, Harpenden. 09:30 every Thursday morning in school term time.

Also, two 50 minute bootcamp sessions at Manland Primary School, Sauncey Ave, Harpenden (February - October) and Sports Hall at Sir John Lawes School, Manland Way, Harpenden (November - January). 7:30 and 8:30 every Saturday.

I’ve never done bootcamps or haven’t exercised for a while.  I’m worried the class will be too challenging and I won’t know what to do.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been exercising for years or you’re a complete beginner, I pride myself on being inclusive and welcoming to everyone.  All the exercises will be clearly demonstrated and I am always on hand to help throughout the session.  All the sessions are self-paced or can be scaled to your ability, so you can work to an exertion level that suits you.  Everyone has to start somewhere and we’ve all been beginners at some point.

Why hire a personal trainer?

A personal trainer takes the guesswork out of your workouts and approach to health and fitness. By hiring a PT, you don’t have to worry about planning your own workouts, or second-guessing what you’re doing. I know how to plan personalised sessions that help you reach your goal.

Also, the improvement to your health and fitness levels can have huge long-term effects on your quality of life, present and future.

How many times a week should you meet with a personal trainer?

Most clients meet with their personal trainers 1 -3 sessions per week (an average of twice).  Whilst personal training is an investment, the experience shouldn’t create more stress. Determine your budget taking into consideration your need for accountability, your availability, your exercise outside of PT sessions and your fitness goals.

I’ve never trained with a Personal Trainer before and I’m feeling nervous.

Starting something new can be daunting and it’s normal to feel nervous before your first session.  I am here to alleviate any of the stress and to help you succeed and motivate you in your personal goals,  I will create workouts that match what your body can handle.  My personal gym is a safe and nurturing place to workout with no judgement.

Before we start training, we will have an initial consultation where we can discuss all your needs and goals.  It gives you a chance to get to know me and to answer any questions you have.

What is a typical personal training session like?

Depending on your goals, history in the gym, injuries etc, your session can vary greatly.  All my sessions are tailored to your needs and goals.  You can expect an appropriately challenging and varied workout, that will leave you feeling energised.  While you exercise, we will discuss any challenges you face and exercise beyond our personal training sessions.

For women, will training with weights make me bulky?

I get asked this question a lot!  The common misconception about heavy weight training, especially among women, is that lifting heavy weights will lead to a bully physique.  It’s true that lifting weights will promote muscle growth, but it’s also an excellent tool to reduce fat and enhance your athletic performance. Women won’t bulk up like men, as women have a different hormone profile - men have more testosterone, which promotes muscle growth.

How does your online coaching and programming work?

This is a monthly subscription, that is conveniently sent to you through an app, on the first day of every month. By subscribing, you will have access to a tailored program, that is complete with clear video demonstrations, to guide you through each exercise. Additionally, the app allows you to log your workouts, ensuring you can track your progress. For extra accountability, throughout the month you will also have clear contact with myself via the app and also one 15 minute phone call, where we can address any questions or concerns that you may have. It’s perfect for those clients wishing to train themselves in the gym or at home (nb. If choosing to train at home, I would suggest making and investment and purchasing a few pieces of equipment, so you can really progress and add a challenge).
